Dark Sky Star Party
-WE WILL HAVE MORE INFORMATION AS WE APPROACH THE DATE-
Join PVCA and Dr. Larry Ramsey of PSU Astronomy and Astrophysics for our second annual Dark Sky Party. All ages are welcome at this free program to learn about the autumn night sky. Dr. Larry Ramsey, PSU Professor Emeritus of Astronomy and Astrophysics, will join us to give a brief introduction to the prominent constellations and planets visible and other objects we might be able to observe with a telescope . He will then begin to put the telescope he will bring on various objects in our galaxy and beyond that are not visible to the naked eye and answer any questions.
We’re shooting for a date of October 21st for this program, with a rain date in the following days. Arrive as early as twilight, and bring a blanket or chairs and a flashlight/headlamp. Telescopes welcome.
Due to the unpredictability of cloud cover and weather concerns, registration is required so we may communicate about potential date changes for best viewing. We hope to see all the Valley night owls!
Larry Ramsey is a Professor Emeritus of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Pennsylvania State University where he pursued research in solar like activity on stars, stellar seismology and most recently astronomical instrumentation for detecting planets around other stars. He also served from 2003-2011 as Department Head of Astronomy and Astrophysics and served on several boards governing research observatories. Dr. Ramsey and his wife Mary are both enjoy the outdoors and spend their leisure time bird watching and on nature travel. They have traveled in Africa, Asia and extensively in South America since1986. On their property near Spring Mills, they manage a bluebird house trail and also manage their landscape to benefit wildlife as best they can.
